Books I Enjoyed That Are Outside of My Comfort Zone

Top Ten Tuesday was created by  The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018.

If this wasn’t the HARDEST LIST TO MAKEBecause when I pick up a book… I’m looking for comfort. So to read a book outside of my comfort zone…

An Unkindness of Magicians {review} || Despite the fact that I have proven to myself that I like adult books, or more so, adult fantasy… I was still nervousAnd though I gave it three stars for… reasons, I still really liked it. A lot. If there’s a sequel (which there is !!!!!) I am 100% here for it.

The Girl in Red {review} ||  I don’t really read horror… as a matter of fact, I can name on one hand all of the “horror” books I have read and own. Add apocalyptic horror??? Not my go to. And again, just because I gave it three stars, doesn’t mean I didn’t like it, okay???

Speak Easy, Speak Love {review} ||  Soooooooooooooo, I’m not a Shakespeare fan to be honest. Actually, I can’t think of one play I actually like. Keep in mind, I haven’t read many, but I don’t go for them to begin with.

But, after reading this, you can bet money that I not only watched the movie, but I also read the play and????

Saga {Vol. 1; Vol. 2} || This was actually my second graphic novel, leaving my first one read in 2015 (??) and… this is graphic. There’s a difference with visuals- with books, it’s easier to self censor if necessary… this has pictures.

But, I was fortunately fine and I Love These Books/Graphic Novels*

*keep in mind I haven’t started volume three yet.

Everlost {Everlost; Everfound} || Creepy middle grade… I won’t lie- I thought this would be cheesy… and in a way it was??? But also not??? There’s a lot of themes explored and it surprised me honestly??

*and these covers are 10/10 keep being creepy thanks*

The Line Between {review} || We’re not going to go into it too deep, but I’m terrified of cults. And this book… is about a cult.

I’m the same lady that has had The Secret Lies of Minnow Bly on my shelf for years because I’m too scared to actually read it.

BUT. I DID IT. FIVE STARS.

Wonder || This book probably shouldn’t be on this list, since it is very much up my alley, but I was a bit iffy going into it to be honest… and I don’t know why. It’s fine though; Black Wonderland retellings might be my new thing pass it on.

Middlegame {review} || Just like An Unkindness of Magicians… same excuse. But also, I gave Every Heart a Doorway three stars (again… I liked it) so I was nervous how this one would go. I mean, the entirre premise was just out there (which is usually my thing) and I honestly didn’t know how she’d pull it off.

BUT SHE DID. 10 STARS.

The Flatshare || When it comes to the romance genre, my average rating is three stars. I don’t know why (yes I do) but it is what it is.

When a romance book hits four stars and above, you know it’s a special one. And this one was really good??

Interesting premise, some dark themes and an overall rootable couple… I may write a review for this?? because I just really liked it, okay?

She Rides Shotgun {review} || This book is nowhere on my radar of things I’d read, but I read a review and something just clicked for me.

Impulse buy alert and this was damn near perfect.

This post was just me saying wow, it was actually??? good??? go figure so tell me some books that surprised you with how good it was??? I’m intrigued…

  1. I really want to read unkindness of magicians- so it’s good you enjoyed it overall, despite it being outside your comfort zone! And I’m glad you liked flatshare, cos that was fun 😀 I hear you about saga as well, cos that’s outside my comfort zone, but it worked for me too 😀 And I really want to read middlegame as well. Awesome list!
