Top Five Wednesday- Best books of 2018

Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme run by Thoughts on Tomes and Ginger Reads Lainey. The Goodreads group is linked here.

Happy Fourth of July everyone! How are we celebrating this fine holiday? Or… if you don’t celebrate, how are you spending today? I personally don’t, it’s a bit chaotic and makes me anxious, but… I mean FOOD so it’s fine.

I was wary on doing this weeks topic because I talk about these book ALL OF THE TIME. And I don’t want to seem repetitive…

Now I’ve only rated three books 5-stars… so we all know what they are.

Reviews: The Poet X; When My Heart Joins the Thousand; Let’s Talk About Love

Let’s Talk About Love by Claire Kann – This was one I saw myself in so clearly… it was damn near a spitting image. Biromantic ace? Check. A brother and sister who are 10+ years older than you? Check. I mean, it was also the fact that this book wasn’t about “the struggle” even though the MC was black, it showed we can be happy, too. (I’m not crying, you’re crying T_T ).

The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo – Another one that I saw myself in so clearly. Questioning religion and THIS WHOLE BOOK…. I can’t explain it. This book was like a revelation for me.

When My Heart Joins the Thousand by A.J. Steiger – This was just so beautiful. Like I mention in my review “It’s one of the most beautiful love stories I’ve read in a while.

Reviews: Not Your Sidekick; Archivist Wasp {Book 1}; Latchkey {Book 2}

Not Your Sidekick by C.B. Lee – THE. CUTEST. THING. I think this was the catalyst of my romance binge last month because JESS AND ABBY. There’s also the diversity that slayed my life. This book was just gold.

Latchkey by Nicole Kornher-Stace – I waited about 3 years for this book and feelings were everywhere. The friendship and the loyalty and THE NEED FOR A THIRD BOOK. BECAUSE IT’S A THING.

Secondhand Origin Stories lee blauersouth

Review: Secondhand Origin Stories

Secondhand Origin Stories by Lee Blauersouth – I mean… HOW COULD I NOT? I talk about this book CONSTANTLY and the diversity? The romance? The social commentary? the AI THAT ASKED FOR GENDERNEUTRAL PRONOUNS?????????????

So… yeah… this was repetitive, but it’s only because I’m selective and very passionate about my faves… so… #sorrynotsorry.
