The Nope Book Tag

Again with the mind readers… Thank you Michaela for tagging me! The creator of this tag can be found here 😉 .

As you all know, unpopular opinions are my jam. So, this tag right here was made for me. Let’s get into some nopes:

coffee divider

NOPE ENDING: A BOOK ENDING THAT MADE YOU GO NOPE EITHER IN DENIAL, RAGE, OR SIMPLY BECAUSE THE ENDING WAS CRAPPY.

blood for blood

… That’s a loooooooot of books. But this one… let it be known this was the first book I cried hard on. I sat in the bathroom for thirty minutes bawling my eyes out (don’t ask why I chose the bathroom when I was home alone… bathrooms are nice). There was a time I hid this one on my shelf because I couldn’t look at it…. no exaggerations. I’m fine now by the way 🙂 .

NOPE PROTAGONIST: A MAIN CHARACTER YOU DISLIKE AND DRIVES YOU CRAZY.

four

I was trying to find another answer, but… Four…

tenor

NOPE SERIES: A SERIES THAT TURNED OUT TO BE ONE HUGE PILE OF NOPE AFTER YOU’VE INVESTED ALL OF THAT TIME AND ENERGY ON IT, OR A SERIES YOU GAVE UP ON BECAUSE IT WASN’T WORTH IT ANYMORE.

outlander

I would go with Divergent again, but we’re going to put more effort into my answers and say Outlander. And the funny thing is, I stopped reading it on accident: I lost my page in the middle of reading it. It’s a 800+ page book. But other than that, I’m not here for the rapey, overbearing man, big ball of NOPE.

NOPE POPULAR PAIRING: A “SHIP” YOU DON’T SUPPORT.

darkling and alina

… *cough* tris and four*cough* WE’RE NOT GOING TO CHOOSE THEM I SWEAR. Most of the books I read aren’t… popular? And it’s a rare thing where I ship things… But I’m going to have to go with The Darkling and Alina. I don’t see how he’s seen as a love interest… I’m not going to spoil anything, but book two? Ruined any chance not that there was one of being a potential love interest in my eyes.

NOPE PLOT TWIST: A PLOT TWIST YOU DIDN’T SEE COMING OR DIDN’T LIKE.

book review 12

This plot twist was stupid. It didn’t help that this book grated on my nerves.

NOPE PROTAGONIST ACTION/DECISION: A CHARACTER DECISION THAT MADE YOU SHAKE YOUR HEAD NOPE.

through the ever night

All of the decision Perry made in this book pissed me off. Indubitably. I thought that I’d hate him forever (I don’t 🙂 ).

NOPE GENRE: A GENRE YOU WILL NEVER READ.

I live by the never say never philosophy… so I can’t think of anything…

NOPE BOOK FORMAT: BOOK FORMATTING YOU HATE AND AVOID BUYING UNTIL IT COMES OUT IN A DIFFERENT EDITION.

I haven’t found any formats that I have that much of an issue with… so again, can’t think of anything.

NOPE TROPE: A TROPE THAT MAKES YOU GO NOPE.

We’re going to make a list because why not?

  • Bad guys winning
  • Slut shaming/not like other girls
  • Never used magic but is the strongest person alive
  • Immortal wanting to be mortal (I will never get this¯\_(⌣̯̀⌣́)_/¯)

… yeah, we’re going to end there.

NOPE RECOMMENDATION: A BOOK RECOMMENDATION THAT IS CONSTANTLY HYPED AND PUSHED AT YOU THAT YOU SIMPLY REFUSE TO READ.

anna and the french kiss.jpg

I tend to crack in situations like this… but Anna and the French kiss is one I won’t do (despite reading Lola and the Boy Next Door¯\_()_/¯).

NOPE CLICHÉ/PET PEEVE: A CLICHÉ OR WRITING PET PEEVE THAT ALWAYS MAKES YOU ROLL YOUR EYES.

When in a life or death situation, these teens are cool, calm and collected. I don’t care how much adrenaline is going through your veins, no inexperienced teen is that calm under pressure. Just sayin’ ¯\_(⌣̯̀⌣́)_/¯

NOPE LOVE INTEREST: THE LOVE INTEREST THAT’S NOT WORTHY OF BEING ONE. A CHARACTER YOU DON’T THINK SHOULD HAVE BEEN A VIABLE LOVE INTEREST.

I just gave two examples up above (~_~;) but, Enzo from The Young Elites? So unnecessary. For multiple reasons. ¯\_(⌣̯̀⌣́)_/¯

NOPE BOOK: A BOOK THAT SHOULDN’T HAVE EXISTED THAT MADE YOU SAY NOPE.

T5W 9.4

NO. HELL NO.

NOPE VILLAIN: A SCARY VILLAIN/ANTAGONIST YOU WOULD HATE TO CROSS AND WOULD MAKE YOU RUN IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION.

minya

I could give my usual answer, but nah. It’s pretty hard for a villain to not only scare me but earn my respect (those two need to go together for this to work) and V.E. Schwab usually delivers. But instead, I’ll say Minya from Strange the Dreamer? Eeeeeevvviiiiillllll

NOPE DEATH: A CHARACTER DEATH THAT STILL HAUNTS YOU.

T5W 2.3blood for bloodcrooked kingdom

No spoilers, but I will never be over it. Biggest to smallest picture is how hard I cried (I will NEVER EVER EVER BE OVER THE HEARTS WE SOLD. I CRIED FOR A WEEK. NO JOKE. NO EXAGGERATIONS.)

NOPE AUTHOR: AN AUTHOR YOU HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE READING FOR AND HAVE DECIDED TO QUIT.

Colleen Hoover and Morgan Matson are the first two that come to mind. I don’t like Hoover’s romances and Matson… she has this formula where the book will be a five star for me and 75% in will ruin everything for me… I’ve read two of her books and I don’t want to continue? But again, never say never.

Guess who I’m tagging…?

You don’t have to do this tag, no hard feelings at all 😉

This tag was longer than I thought it was? But ya’ll know how I am about long tags ❤ .

  1. I love this tag and your answers. I’ve heard so many things about the Grisha trilogy plot stuff and having only read the first book, I won’t read the next two because of all the stuff I’ve heard and that’s a nope lol

  2. Unless there’s some hard hitting cultural issue going on that I need to understand, I will never know why authors choose to torture readers, or why publishers release these books. Like, is there a way to be original without skinning me alive? No? Hit me with a trope then.

  3. I didn’t really like Four either, I actually didn’t like any of the characters in Divergent which is why I never finished the trilogy. There is also the fact that I didn’t enjoy the story…Anyway! I don’t plan on reading Anna and the French Kiss either, the story just doesn’t interested me. Great post! 😀

      1. Same! I was so confused at first, but as a villain I think he’s great. A lot of villains are so forgettable and he’s definitley not that 😂

  5. I love the Grisha trilogy and I like the Darkling but I don’t ship them together. I’m like one of the few people who actually likes Mal and Alina together. And Minya from Strange the Dreamer is scary. I haven’t read Colleen Hoover but even though I love Morgan Matson, I know which book you’re talking about when it’s not a five star read (@ Since You’ve Been Gone) because I felt the same way.

    1. I feel like Alina would’ve been fine on her own but because of process of elimination, Mal’s an okay choice lol

I’m not going to give up on Morgan Matson completely, but I’ll probably just check her books out from the library (I still kind of want to read Amy and Roger 🤗 )
