Top Five Wednesday- Genre Benders

Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme run by Thoughts on Tomes and Ginger Reads Lainey. The Goodreads group is linked here.

This weeks topic is books that genre bend am I saying this right? I’m going to admit something: I was a bit confused on what this actually meant. I may have googled it. But, now that I know, I totally got this *nervous laugh*. Here’s my list:

book review 25

Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton

This is a Western/Arabian type of mixup. With shoot outs, Demdjin and all that good stuff, it does it quite well. I would’ve never thhought to mix the two.

Cinder by Marissa Meyer

I know the majority of people who have read this series names it as just a retelling. But, what about the Dystopian, Sci-fi, Fantasy aspects to it? We can’t forget those.

book review 9

All the Birds in the Sky by Charlie Jane Anders

This has the theme of magic vs. science, while having an “end of the world” plot device all together. It’s a bit weird, yet very introspective.

T5W 4.2

The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker

Oh, this beautiful gem of a book. It’s a Historical Fiction, Fantasy, Magical Realism type of book. It flows so smoothly you don’t really notice, though.

T5W 4.3

Jackaby by William Ritter

I completely forgot about this one, too. I only read the first book, but I remember the Fantasy, Mystery, Paranormal aspects in it.

Have you read any of these? Did I get it right? Let me know in the comments below!
