Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme run by Thoughts on Tomes and Ginger Reads Lainey The Goodreads group is linked here.
The topic these week is creepy setting that I liked which is actually quite hard for me since I don’t really reach for creepy books? But, I digress. Here’s my list:
The Cellar by Natasha Preston
It’s bad enough that our main character, Summer, is kidnapped with other girls in a cellar. THEY’RE IN THE WOODS. SECLUDED. ALONE. WITH A PSYCHOPATH. Imagining just how dark and alone you’d be, not only with strangers, which gives that who do I trust vibe, but they’re in the middle of the woods. Woods are the epitome of creepy.
Unwind Dystology by Neal Shusterman
In a world where you can drop babies off on random peoples doorstep and they may or may not get taken in and people under 18 are fair game to get there limbs taken off there body and put on others, how could you feel safe? You’d have to always look over your back until 18.
Vassa in the Night by Sarah Porter
This book didn’t really scare me, but Baba Yaga’s shop was trippy. The nights are getting longer, if you steal from the shop you won’t come out; there’s just a air of mystery about the shop, the owner and the town.
The Accident Season by Moira Fowley-Doyle
The town in this book has some creepy atmosphere happening man. I mean ghost, family curses, mystery and just…? It felt like something was being slowly draped over me and I didn’t know what. All I knew was that I was uncomfortable.
Coraline by Neil Gaiman
That cover should say enough, but the huge house they moved into, all those doors and THE OTHER WORLD WITH THE OTHER MOTHER. We knew something was up, it was just too perfect. And when things started going down? The whole atmosphere sent chills down my spine.
I’ve been thinking about reading Unwind for a few months now, but have been putting it off because it sounds. so. creepy! yet still interesting at the same time… This is the month to read creepy books, so i might just break down and read it 🙂

The other mother is definitely scary. I remember when I first read it I keep yelling at Coraline to “GET OUT RUNN” instead of standing up to the mother xD

The Accident Season made my list, too. I loved the creepy everything about that book ❤ I totally forgot about Coraline, but yes! It was so creepy. Unwind is on my TBR, and now I'm thinking I should add Vassa in the Night, too.
